Jaw Joint (TMJ) Treatment in Turkey
Jaw-joint (TMJ) disorders cause pain in the jaw joint and the muscles that move the jaw. Treatment often starts with a custom night splint.

The basics
What is the jaw joint?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) works like a sliding hinge connecting the jawbone to the skull, with one joint on each side. TMJ disorders can involve the chewing muscles, the joint and its ligaments, and the head and neck muscles.
The exact cause can be hard to pin down. Genetics, arthritis, jaw injury and clenching or grinding (bruxism) can all play a part.
Causes
Why people clench and grind
- Stress
- Sleep patterns and breathing problems during sleep
- Injury
- Some medicines
- Alcohol, caffeine and smoking
Symptoms
Symptoms of TMJ disorders
- Pain in one or both jaw joints
- Aching in or around the ear
- Pain or difficulty when chewing
- Facial pain
- Locking that makes it hard to open or close the mouth
Diagnosis
How it is diagnosed
Your dentist listens to and feels the jaw as you open and close your mouth, checks its range of movement and presses around it to find tender areas. Dental X-rays, a CT scan or an MRI may be recommended.
Treatment
How it is treated
Symptoms sometimes settle without treatment. If they continue, a soft or hard night splint made to fit your teeth is often recommended. Impressions are taken and the splint is made in our laboratory. Splints are replaced at intervals, and reducing daily stress helps.
Step by step
How it works
- 01
Assessment
Examination of the jaw joint and bite.
- 02
Imaging
X-rays, CT or MRI if needed.
- 03
Splint
Impressions are taken and a night splint made.
- 04
Review
Progress is checked and the splint adjusted.
The number of visits, the length of your stay and healing times depend entirely on your treatment. Your dentist sets them out in your written plan.
When you are home
Aftercare
Wear the splint as advised and bring it to check-ups. Some jaw-joint problems need ongoing care; your dentist explains how follow-up will work.
Your coordinator stays in touch after you leave. You can send photos or arrange a video call with the clinic at any time, and we can share your records with your own dentist.
